Shakinda Charity promo raises awareness and 10k in first night

At Shakinda we have a triple bottom line philosophy we don't just want to create incredible motion graphics, moives and interactive experiences we want to try and make the world a better place.

Over the last few months we have been working with Stand Out International to create a video to promote their charity and to provoke a concert crowd to get involved in helping end child sex exploitation.

The brief was wide open and Shakinda devised the video from original concept, through script writing, filming to post-production, special effects and delivery. It was shown last night to a crowd of just over 2500 people and they raised an impressive 10,000! The money will be going straight into projects on the ground in Thailand and Cambodia for more info check out the Stand Out website.

Shakinda presents: Beloved projections for Belfast City Council 12-2-10

This is a short video made from a recent piece of subtle outdoor projections, for a festival Belfast City Council put on for Valentines. The concept was for people in the city to be surprised by pieces of art and performance hidden around the city.

In light of the Beloved theme and recent political developments I chose to try and communicate unconditional love and the amazing things that can be achieved when people choose love as their first priority.

Its been very busy at Shakinda recently and hard to know where to start on the news front. Great workshops at the Urban Arts Academy in Belfast, Fun gigs with Nakatomi towers at Stiff Kitten and continued residencies at Lush! and Yello. More production work for the new Yello visuals and DVD and Play and Wired and Belfast Exposed. We have now launched vj equipment rental services in response to popular demand!

Realtime Motion Graphics with Quartz Composer is a book and DVD project authored by Shakinda & Surya Buchwald, to be published by Pearson. Started nine months ago, this project aims to introduce Quartz Composer as a very powerful and fun graphical programming environment. Despite its massive potential for real-time audio reactive solutions, Quartz Composer is still mainly publicized for the creation screensaver, and remains woefully under-used as a visualization tool. The Mastering Quartz Composer book could change this forever.

This book and DVD shows the full potential of Quatz Composer, from taking a complete novice through the software setup process and getting to grips its interface, all the way to enabling the modelization of complex 3d audio reactive environments, midi interaction, to retrieving online database information.

Shakinda lights up Dubai :: MTV Arbia Boutique Music Festival

Shakinda created quite a storm in Dubai last month as he rolled in to play at Mtv Arabia's Boutique music festival. Making the front page of Time Out Dubai's nightlife section ahead of Eric Morillo and Dj Prime Cuts!

Shakinda performed on a floating stage at Festival City alongside Acid house legend JB and Dj Farha. "It was a unique experience and there was a really good vibe between crowd, music and visuals. Definitely one to repeat!"-Shakinda.

Shakinda signs to Ne1co label releases first two AV singles available on Dj Download.com

At the end of February Oli Sorenson (Vj Anyone) one of the most prolific and globally renouned vj and av artists approached Shakinda to work on the AV singles project for DJ Download. The project involves producing highly stylised video mixes for download with the latest audio releases.

The AV single project is pioneering a new way for music to be released and opening up live visuals to many artists who to this point have been audio only. Shakinda is excited to involved in these early stages of what will undoubtedly become a global phemoneon.

This agreement also marks another first for Shakinda as this is the first time his studio's motion graphics have been released into the global consumer market; get you copy while there're hot:

Last weekend was a lot of fun Shakinda was over performing, jamming and giving a workshop at the excellent B Seite festival in Mannheim, Germany pics...

We are pleased to announce that 2008 will be going out with a bang, Shakinda will play Phatz festival in New Zealand, just a few days after the next planet love where Shakinda will once again go head to head with the recently re-voted world's number one dj Armin Van Buuren.

This year so far Shakinda has performed to over 80,000 people. Combined with the ongoing 1100 capacity residency at Yello, boxing night and NYE we are hopeful he will break the 100,000 barrier. Truly marking 2008 as a red letter year for Ireland's most exciting VJ.

Top 9 in Europe, 37,000 and counting

Its been busy as ever round the Shakinda studios. After qualifying for the finals of Edirol's first ever Vj Battle, Shakinda held it down at the London International Music Show to come away ranked top 9 in Europe by Edirol.

This was an awesome experience but the last few weekends have been bigger than ever, starting with a 10 hour performance on stage to 20,000 in Portrush on two 50m2 LED panels, alongside Dj talent like Fedde Le Grand, Eric Prydz, Steve Angello and Utah Saints

Then back down to Dublin the next weekend for 12,000 at Planet Love Summer Session, in a rather muddy fairyhouse. Judge Jules and Marco V were in fine form and the production in the tent was really top class.

Last weekend was the legendary Summer Madness festival in the Kings Hall in Belfast. Their Shakinda performed twice daily with Pete Kernoghan and the Summer madness band, to a crowd of over 5000. The Christian spiritual element to the festival gave shakinda an opportunity to explore some interesting themes and communicate in a very different environment from club performance.

Which totals 37000 in three weekends, this weekend its the Life Festival in Galway and next VideoARK in Berlin so the race for 50,000 in five is on...

Just back from playing two days at the awesome Spainish Rocket festival Shakinda's relentless visual assault just keeps on coming. Now confirmed to play alongside Freddie le Grand (Put your hands up for detroit), Eric Prydz(Call on Me), Steve Angello and Utah Saints before the Chemical Brothers take the stage at the Ultimate beach party, Portrush, Ireland.

After a late booking and sudden return from the slopes in France, Shakinda once more rocked the Planet love visuals. This time it was just outside dublin, shakinda vjed alongside Ferry Corsten, Judge Jules, Sander Van Doorn and Alex Kidd. The 5000 capacity gig had been sold out for weeks and everyone came to party!

Shakinda is pleased to be taking part in the inaugural Wee Adventure Film Festival in Dublin tomorrow night. After a screening of a broad selection of extreme sports videos produced by irish film makers Shakinda will live re-edit the movies to Dj Pete Kernoghan's beats.

This video mash up will give draw together the best bits of each film and get it them all grooving along to the music. From canoes to climbers, skaters to sky divers this will be a night not to be missed.

Janurary has been an exciting development month, seeing shakinda working on new content and developing his 12x3 set using a matrox tripple head to go.

Shakinda was invited by world famous DJ Pete Tong to contribute a visual clip for unreleased remixes in his rebranded video podcast. Hip hop and the Launch of Shakinda's Quatz tutorials

Last night saw Shakinda throw down with some of the biggest names in Irish Hip Hop Culture. The premier of Chris Eva's feature length documentary "Love, Peace, Unity and Having Fun" was screened in the Catalyst Arts Centre in Belfast. Shakinda contributed a guest edit to the film and then Vjed with a live mash up of the movie along with Djs Concept, The Fat Controller, Sally, MCs Kat, Beemicksee, Miles, the legendary Belfast City Breakers and the pure riotous Team Fresh. All this with an architectural across the Gallery's roof garden onto a derelict building, and graf from Jester made for a very special evening.

Shakinda's commitment to visual culture and development of the VJ art form has lead to him establishing a unique set of video tutorials in one of his favourite tools Quartz Composer. Hoping to breakdown some of the barriers to this powerful visual programming language Shakinda has entitled it "The Irishman's Guide to Quartz". Japanese Popstars & Shakinda tear up Yello

Saturday night saw the explosive union of some of the hottest a/v in ireland right now. Djs The Japanese Popstars, recently signed to Gun-Ho records, threw down a blistering electro set and Shakinda responded with one if his finest 3 hour sets to date.

The crowd in Yello we're loving it as the lads kept them dancing till 6am. Thanks to Aaron and Lawerence for organising a brilliant night.

Shakinda and Global Fashion Label Miss Sixty's fashion show

As featured on national daily's Televsion section, Shakinda worked with Miss Sixty / Energie and Av company Box22 to produce a unique visual show to accompany their recent fashion show in the Blackbox in Belfast.

On the night Shakinda combined a live camera feed, his trademark 3D models of belfast's landmarks, with special remixes of the European Winter Collections DVD and night specific branding. Creating a unique perfomance much to the satisfaction of the label, Propellor PR and guests attending.

This week will see a busy one for shakinda, after an aweseome weekend of live remixing, scaffold towers and police tickets with Bluetree, he is busy getting content ready for Decasia in London and the Legendary Drop Beats Not Bombs in Birmingham.

Cross over of senses and Ministry of Sound postponed a week

Due to factors outside of our control Shakinda's gig at Ministry of Sound London has been postponed. Apologies to all who had made travel plans etc, hopefully you can still make it next week.

Eariler this week Shakinda performed at Gallery Yujiro's first birthday party with Jellybass. It was a great evening with performance art, live music, samba and those killer JB basslines. Special thanks to Mark for the visual install nice stacks of tvs and a 5k projector.

Feedback from the night was very positive and Shakinda's night and site specific visuals complemented the space and atmosphere perfectly. Video clips online soon.

Bluetree Album launch review

The gig was sold out over a week before and a packed house listened to bluetree launch their debut album. The visuals had taken shakinda a number of months general work and 2weeks intensive postproduction to create. It was to date the biggest live music project, with specific shoots, green screen work and quartz modelling.

On the night production included 2live HD camera feeds and a overhead spy cam on the drum kit, combined with vdmx on the laptop for a full 4 source mix (rig pic in gallery pics Which all came together, with some awesome lighting and production to make an incredible spectale. Visonic festival 2007, an awesome festival of Music, Art, Film and Technology. Held in various locations across Belfast's Catderal Quarter the festival presents a rare blend of international and local talent, providing special events, performances and teaching.

Shakinda has been asked to provide a workshop in the Whitebox (front bar of the Blackbox) on Sunday the 14th of October. Shakidna will be running an introduction to vjing straight off the plane from his Ministry of Sound gig. So grab a laptop and come on down, the session will be mostly aimed at beginners but more experienced vjs are very welcome to come down and participate.

Time's been moving fast since the stray cinema gig. Everyone there enjoyed it and it was a pleasure for shakinda to work with Michelle, dan, aka, anathesia associates, Hess is more and Eve black eve white. A few connections made will hopefully see a little more shakinda in shoreditch...

Looking forward, shakinda will begin a new relationship with the belfast art college, providing visuals in their legendary and remodelled union. A location famous for its fresh creative talent, and previous haunt of F visuals the original belfast vj.

Just confimed is also news that shakinda will play at Cross Over of Senses at Ministry of Sound London, on October 13th. This is a very special night which sees the club transformed into one of the most immersive visual envirnoments club nights in the world. Tickets and more info...

stray cinema next week

Next tuesday shakinda will be in london for the stray cinema's screening event. Its in the ditch bar on 145 shoreditch high street from 7:30pm. Its free in so come on down or if your locationally challenged its also going to be webcast from the stray cinema website.

its an exciting event becuse its a unique example of open source cinema, where the viewer becomes director and editor. A film was uploaded in raw form and people from all over the world have worked on it to produce their own film from the same footage. Shakinda has recently been booked for Chris Tomlin's support; Jonny Parks and Blue Tree. The arena holds up to 8,500 and would be the biggest capacity to experience shakinda live montion graphics to date. Working with the songwriters and some previously unreleased material will help create a unique and exciting show incorporating the orignal creative impluses that insipired each track. Over the last couple of weeks Shakinda has been putting together an updated showreel, it includes live 3d envirnoments, wii video scratching and an nwa belfast remix :)

A new and exciting night for shakinda will be vjing along side Hess is More at the Stray Cinema's london screening on the 21st of August.

Stray Cinema is an open source film. It is an experiment that combines filmmaking with online information sharing. They shot a film a while ago and put the raw footage on their website, this night will see the screening of five of the best two minute segments from round the world.

shakinda will be teaming up with f.a.u.x. djs one of the hotest acts on belfast's under ground scene for a two gigs in four days double bill. the first is saturday in the pavillion and the second is shakinda's monthly residency next tuesday in at tekumah in mono.

F.a.u.x. are a pair of appelton geniuses so there should be some appelton vdmx v4 midi bombing to bring an insync and in your face av set of epic proportions... get involved

Shakinda is recovering after a intense week at the summer madness festival in Belfast. During the week he played in 4 separate venues with over 5000 ppl on 25ft screens, including a special debut 12 x 3 set, accompanying Andy Hunter, Roly Miller, Blue Tree and his regular partner in crime Navara this was a VJ odessy of epic proportions.

The spiritual elements of the festival allowed room for some more down tempo inspiriational content alongside plenty of banging night gigs. It was also the first year that Vjing was included as a consistent element to the main stage of this 21 year old festival, thanks to Ronin, Naill and the Production house crewe from some awesome installs...

Just got confirmation that Shakinda will provide a vj mix for the next edition of the legendary Pete Tong's video podcast the "Tong cast". Its due to go out next Saturday and with over 60,000 subscribers will be a perfect way to let a few more people experience shakidna live motion graphics...

There are also a few rumours flying around about a new Saturday night residency in Belfast but until everythings confirmed we'll keep it hush hush, except to say its a very exciting prospect...

Above is my entry to the cargo intel dj/vj battle, its for a final battle in the london club at the end of the month, there were some good other entries but so we'll have to see.

Im now booked for Summer Maddness a big festival on the outskirts of Belfast witha cool spiritual slant. Im doing a downtempo breaks set with my man Navara.

Next Tuesday is Tekumah presents... convulsion, with retro gaming consoles, its gonna be one not to miss...
